Rolex Datejust 36 1600 'Doorstep' Dial (1968)

The 1600 is one of the more interesting Datejust references for vintage collectors — the smooth-bezel variant of the Datejust 36, produced from the mid-1960s through the late 1970s. Our example is from 1968 and features the original "Doorstep" dial, an early dial style with stepped hour markers that's become highly sought-after by vintage Rolex collectors. The watch is in good pre-owned vintage shape with original dial intact; the strap and buckle are aftermarket/generic. Configurations with the original Doorstep dial in honest condition are increasingly difficult to find, and this piece retains its period-correct character throughout. Condition: This example comes as watch only in pre-owned condition. It would have been produced in 1968 and was Gifted in 1992 based on the caseback engraving. It has some natural patina on the bezel and comes on a AM strap with an original buckle. It is running strong and ready to be worn.
